2 Hour Reflection

PART I: Two-Hour Presentation
Two-Hour Presentation Student Assessment

(1) What assessment would you give yourself?
I think i deserve an AE because I did meet the time requirements for the content and also for the total length time. My answers really did answer my EQ and I also had citations visible on what I was talking about. My activities were very hands on and similar to what would happen in a real wedding. During both activities the student had to apply everything that I had taught them about. During the activities some of the students would come up to me and tell me that they really were learning stuff that they did not know before and that I really made it clear to them and they understood what I was talking about.

(2) What is one thing you think you did well in the two-hour and why?
I think I did good not only on explaining my answers to the students but also the way that the activities were planned. They  really did apply what I had taught them in my answers. When I was looking at the photographs that they took themselves I was able to see my answers in the photographs. That showed me that they did understand what I was talking about in my answers.

PART II: Overall Senior Project Experience

(3) What do you think you did well on in the project?  What could you have done better?  Please explain.
I think I did very well on my independent tasks and my ISearch paper. I was really proud of myself when I completed my second independent task because I attended my friends wedding and took photographs through out the whole day. I also photographed my sisters engagement photo shoot. I was really nervous to do these two events because it would be a first time for me on both of them. However I was able to get some pretty good shots, my friends teachers, and family thought they were good. I was able to prove to myself that I really am capable of doing something that big if I dedicate myself to it. I also think I did good on my ISearch paper because I was able to address my EQ with my three answers, not only did I meet the requirement on the word count I went above it. I used all the sources that helped me come up with the three answers that I had for my EQ. I could have done better on the Science Fair component. I could of gotten more data than that that I had, and possibly look up similar experiments done to mine to compare the other results to the ones that I got.

(4) What is your EQ and what is the best answer to your EQ?
My EQ is "What is most important in capturing a priceless moment with quality photographs?" My best answer is Emotion. Emotion in a photograph is very important because it shows the viewer how that person felt at that instant. Not only will the viewer of the photograph see how they felt but they will also be able to feel that same feeling within themselves. When a photographer captures the emotion in a photograph, that photograph will then be eye appealing to the viewer because it will catch their eye faster rather than having the viewer look at the photograph and have to look at the meaning of the photograph.

(5) How has the last month of culminating events (e.g. I-Search, Two-Hour, Exit etc) affected your answer to your EQ?  Has it changed?  Why or why not?
The last month with all these projects really did help me feel more confident with the answers that I had for my EQ because when I would look back at my research when it talked about that and it would really address it. Not only did these projects make me see that the answers that I had were correct but they also helped me go into more detail about each of them. In the last few research checks I would go into more depth into each one of my answers and I would learn more about each as well. With all these projects they really helped me back up my answers with good sources.

(6) What suggestions do you have in order to improve the senior project?
The senior projects as a whole is a very good project and it also gives us the students freedom to learn about what we like and are interested in. However there are a few things that I think could be done in making it a little less stressful to other seniors in the next years to come. There seemed to be a period of time were we didnt really have any projects due during the second semester. Then towards the end of the year we have a lot of deadlines with the 3 column chart, service learning, independent task 2, binder, exit interview, and isearch paper. These components individually are very good projects that help up understand our projects a little more and see were we are going with the answers. However it was really rushed and cramped. I think that during that period when we did not have that many stuff to do on the SP we could have started on some of those that way it would be more spaced out and less stress on the students. That would also give us more time to focus on the answers that we came up with and understand them a little more. Another thing is back in the first semester when we had a break from SP because of the model assembly project. That really side tracked all of us from our SP and we left our SP off to the side and did not focus on it that much. That month that we lost could of really helped us alot with the content on our projects. I just think that MA got in the way of our SP which seems alot more important than the MA project. I am not saying that the MA project has to go away, just that maybe the senior team should still have some class time were the students have time to go back to their SP that way the student dont put it off to the side.

(7) Overall Senior Project Assessment
As an overall grade on my Senior Project I would give myself a P+ because I met the requirements for all of my components and on some I did go above than what was being asked for. I really did learn a lot about my topic and have learned to have a new appreciation to all the work that really does go into it. I have spent countless hours working on components for this project but I am really proud of myself because I was able to get through it. Also all of my answers did really answer my EQ.

Service Learning

Literal:
My Service Learning consisted of the ROP Digital Photography class that was being offered at school. The class was held every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm to 6pm, and taught by Jack Bohlka. Jack taught the class everything about photography, he had lesson from how to use the cameras to lighting to how to use Photoshop. Unfortunately Jack has been having some complications and has been in the hospital since spring break. While Jack has been gone we have had subs, however Mr. Daly has token over the class until Jack comes back, hopefully very soon. Since Jack is not teaching the class now I was not able to have him sign my Service Learning sheet, however I was able to get Mr. Daly sign it. Jack can be contacted by email, or through his facebook account.
Interpretive :
Through the countless hours in my Service Learning I have learned many things about photography that I did not know prior to attending the class. I learned things from how to manipulate lighting, camera settings, photograph composition, angles, and how to work on Photoshop. This class really helped go through my senior project because it had taught me hands on how to take photographs.
Applied
Jack taught me a lot about photography in general but he has also talked to me about things that help make Wedding Photography have good quality to each photograph. He told me how to go about a Wedding day and how to act and take the photographs. A few days before I shoot my friends Wedding(my first wedding I shoot) he talked to me and told me what kind of settings are most suitable for certain situations. Jack has really helped me a lot with my senior project, not only with what he taught me in the class but also with the tips, suggestions, and advice that he had to offer me.

2 Hour Presentation Rough Draft

1) My sponge activity is going to be asking the class as a whole what they think "Wedding Photography" is. I will also have a picture up and ask them what they see in that photograph just to get them talking and so that they can start thinking in the mentality of what has to go into a wedding photograph. I want this to grab their attention right when they walk into the class room.
2) In the Intro I am planning on talking about why I chose this topic and going over a little bit about my EQ I dont really want to spend to much time on the intro because I dont feel that it would be as important than the other stuff that I would need to talk about.
3) I dont know if this would count but I wanted to talk a little bit about the history of wedding photography but since I talked a little bit about this during my 20 min presentation i dont know if it would count. But I could talk about how it came about and why people were so serious in them  when photos bearly started to come about.
4) answer 1: Quality of equipment
activity: nothing
answer 2: Lighting
activity: I was thinking of having people have a main subject(1or2 people from their group) and have them have flash lights and have them practice some of the lighting types that i talkted about and have they say why they think that one is more approriate or fits better.
answer 3: Emotion
activity: For this activity  I want to apply everything that I had talked about. I was thinking of asking Jack if  I could borrow a couple of cameras from ROP and have one per group. As of right now I dont know how many cameras because I do not know how many people will be in the class room. I want to tell them to go outside for about 5 minutes and tell them to apply everything i had told them about and have them "capture" a moment that has good quality in it. It can be anything that they may see as pricelss. After they take the photographs I want them to come back inside the classroom and have them upload the photos that they took to the computers, have them choice on of their best photos and explain why they choice it, why they think it has good quality, what lighting they used.
6) I am going to conclude my presentation with a small recap of what I talked about, talk about my best answer which is emotion. I will also go over the other answers that I found while doing my research. After that I will go over my 3 most important sources and explain why I have them as my most important sources.
7) So far what I have on decorating the room is with photos that I have taken at my friends wedding and the photos of my sister and her boyfriends engagement photographs. I also want to buy little decorations at stores they said "I do" and buy little rings or stuff that represent a wedding. I might also have old photographs of weddings as well.
8) To make my 2 Hour Presentation work out I need to have computers, cameras, camera cables, projector, laptop, flash lights, photographs, decorations to put around the room

Independent Task 2

Literal:
A) I Nancy C. Frias, affirm that I completed  my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
 B) I took various photographs of different things and events. I took photographs during practices of the girls practicing for powder puff as well as the cheerleaders, people making posters, and other seniors just playing games.I also took photos at the actual football game. I attended my friends wedding were I took more photographs through out the whole wedding day. I took photographs of my sister and her boyfriend as their engagement photographs. Me and a few other of my friends that are also doing their senior projects on photography have a booth for ifest were we are going to have a few photographs that we have taken that represent our topics on display for people to go and look at. I looked over all of the photographs that I took and edited some of the photographs that I thought were good but might have needed a little more fixing to them.

Interpretive:
In total I have spent over 30 hours taking photographs and editing them to complete my independent task. In each section of work I have over 100 photographs for each event that I attended to and took photo graphs for. Some of the events were only a few hours and other events took the entire day and a lot of setting up and arranging people around. The other thing that also took a while to do was go through all of the photographs and see which ones were good and which ones needed to be edited.

Applied:
This independent task has really helped me know what my answers for my EQ are because I was actually able to go out and test my answers which are (quality of equipment, lighting, and emotion). I was able to test out theses 3 myself and see that they are fundamental parts to wedding photography. It also really helped me test out the emotion part as well.

here are some of the photographs from each event the rest of them are on the flash drive

the following 4 are what i focused more on

I was asked to photograph powder puff which also counts for my independent task

Creative Expression

Nancy C. Frias
Wedding Photography
EQ: What is most important in capturing a priceless moment by photography?
I am going to take photographs at my friends wedding, and I am also planning on taking engagment photographs for my sister. I was planning on doing a collage on both of those events, that way people can see the work that I have done, and what I have learned so far in my Senior Project.
The way that this relates to my Senior Project is that I will be able to apply everything that I have learned so far, and also test out my potential answers of my EQ (lighting, set up, and emotion).

Independent Task 2

1) What are you doing?
My Friend is getting married in March and I told her that I was taking a digital photography class. She told me if I could photograph her wedding for her and her husband. I told her that if I photograph her wedding if it would be okay if I also use those photos for my independent task and she said that it was fine. I will also be photographing powder puff, and some of the practices maybe. I was also thinking of editing some of those photos.

2)How will you verify?
I will upload several photographs of the wedding on to the blog. I will upload the originals and then I will also upload some of the photographs that I edit on photoshop. Purther assigned this job to me and Heidi and he will see that we are there photographing the whole time.

3)How does it relate to your EQ?
The way that my friends wedding will relate to the answer of my EQ is that I will be applying everything that I have learned so far about wedding photography. I will put all the techniques that I have learned into the photographs to see what works and what does not. I will be messing around with the lighting, and I will see how to capture the true emotion in that moment. As far as powder puff goes this helps me with my EQ because it will help me deal with hectic events with a lot of movement all over the place.
